LEGAL MOVIE 1 : TO KILL A MOCKING BIRD

 'This movie analysis has spoilers'

As a legal enthusiast, I reminded myself to read and watch the classics before I can comment or critic in any of the current legal situations. For a start, I watched this famous movie [have not read the book yet] and decided to write down my reflection after watching it based on two forms; First, reflecting on legal basis. Second, reflecting overall in life. [Socio-Politic-Economy]

I would like to divide this movie reflection into two.

Overall Reflection

This movie was based on Harper Lee's 1960 novel 'To Kill a Mocking Bird. Some backstory about the author is that, his father was a lawyer and he has defended two negroes on murdering a white shopkeeper.

The movie starts with Scott (Jean Louis Finch) a girl and daughter of Mr Finch (The lawyer) and her brother Jem living in the hot Maycomb, Alabama. The story is narrated by grown Scott as a voiceover. They hear about a man named Boo, who eats rabbits and cockroaches, ugly looking as explained by the fellows in the neighbourhood area. He is one of the essential characters in the movie.

A note to point, it that this story was written when Apartheid was still a code. There are several scenes in the movie where it pictures it perfectly, i.e, usually, black people are servants for white. When one is crossing over their neighbour, wishes the neighbour and not even a glance at the negroes. The second is when, in the courtroom, or in public; negroes are separated from white people. In the courtroom scene, negroes will be sitting on the first floor meanwhile white people will be sitting on the ground floor.

Sometimes a grown, well educated, talented, respectable, accountable adult is not enough for society. There is a scene where the whites (farmers, poor people) cannot tolerate Atticus defending a negro in a rape case. The farmers 20-25 armed people surrounded Atticus, a night before the trial where Atticus would be safeguarding Tom Robinson (the said "accused"). Here is a powerful scene, of Scott very kindly greeting one of the clients in the group of farmers, Mr Cunnington. She somewhat goes,

"Hey Mr Cunnington"

"I said hey"

"Don't you remember me I'm Scott, Jean Louis Finch? You came to our house to give ______ (harvest). You are one of Atticus's clients. Say hi to your boy. We both go to the same school. I am sorry Mr Cunnigton, entailment is very hard"

[An entailment is a situation where the owner of a property has limited power over his own property. Mr Cunnington is a poor farmer.]

The farmers then will look another and go back. I learned that children's innocence has the most extreme power and a proud parent is one who has stood by justice, and raised the same. When the children speak, society has nothing to retaliate but obey them.

Legal Reflection

Atticus Finch, the lawyer now who defends the black man (Mr Tom Robbinson) is against all the whites in the town. He truly believes that his client is not guilty and he truly is innocent. The accuse before Tom was that he has raped a white female.

I have no heart to give more spoilers, but I can say this, adolescent lust and platonic love which lead to court and eventually murder. It was not a positive end of the course and I wonder why there were another 20 minutes more even after the climax court scene has ended.

There is another character named Boo, who is another mocking bird in my perspective. The first was indeed Tom Robinson. The artistic nature of a mocking bird is that it does not harm but only whistle. So don't ever hurt it.
